ADEY, William Thomas Henworth

William Thomas Henworth Adey was born in 1899 in Willenhall, near Wolverhampton to Frank Adey and Bertha Henworth. He was the eldest of their four sons. Frank Adey was a Butcher at 42 Market Place in Willenhall. William attended St Giles Primary School and then Wolverhampton Grammar School. After leaving school he worked in the London City and Midland Bank in West Bromwich.

In a piece in the Birmingham Gazette on the 12th of October 1918 it was reported that William had enlisted with the Westmoreland and Cumberland Yeomanry at Whitsuntide that year, the 8th of May. He was posted to County Cork in Ireland with the 2/1st Brigade and was returning on his first leave when he travelled on RMS Leinster on the 10th of October.

William Adey did not survive the sinking but his body was recovered and he was buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery in Dublin. His name is recorded on the Willenhall WW1 Memorial.
